Turquoise from the elusive Widow Maker mine in Nevada. This mine obtained its ominous name from its inaccessibility and deadly track record. Not only is it extremely difficult to get to, its impossible to bring vehicles and heavy mining machinery into. which means miners must enter on foot, which is also precarious given the ruggedness of the terrain, and must mine by hand without machinery. As if that wasn’t enough obstacles to over come in pursuit of a stone, the miners must then carry all of their findings out themselves. Needless to say, there is not much of this particular turquoise on the market and I feel very fortunate to have scored what I did!
